This is a project that I challenge myself to direct a new art direction for a released project(good kid, maad city), through out the project I wanted to visualize Kendrick's story throughout a different point of view.
The car on the cover of good kid, m.A.A.d city symbolizes Kendrick Lamar’s upbringing in Compton, serving as a vessel for memory, trauma, and movement through a harsh environment. It embodies both the familial love and the systemic violence that shaped him, and positions the album as a coming-of-age story told from the backseat of survival.
In this case Kendrick wants to keep it lowkey by putting an image of a black van on his album cover. He wants the audience to find out themselves what does it mean and represent by listening to the album.
In my art direction, I put in the cover images of KD since he was a child and a member of the hood to let the visual storyline on the album cover be shown seamlessly from KD as a child until he becomes an adult.
